Silk shading (otherwise known as needle-painting) is the name for creating naturalistic shading and colour blending with simple stitches.

The stitch used is ‘long and short’ and sometimes other stitches are added to enhance the design. Colours blend smoothly from one colour to the next.

For this design you will use 100% pure silk thread, known as 'floss' or 'flat' silk - a type of silk dating back centuries - such as you would see on medieval Church embroidery for example.

This design fits a 10 inch hoop and is suitable for beginners or anyone revisiting silk shading.

The kit explores colour blending/shading in a simple way with detailed instructions and step-by-step photographs, and tips on how to achieve the best results.
